dvb-usb: bulk message failed: -110

I have a Dvico FusionHDTV DualDigital 4 R2 PCI card and every now and again, usually after a major upgrade or rebuild, I end up getting the

dvb-usb: bulk message failed: -110

message spamming my console and flooding dmesg.

And every time I then spend hours trying to find the post on the net that tells me how to fix it!

So now I am putting it here so that I, and maybe others, can find it!

It comes from a Whirlpool thread (http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/1174865)
Sorry to resurrect an old thread but it mentions something I've been having issues with, the
dvb-usb: bulk message failed:
message in the logs.
This is a known problem with the Dvico cards. There's a post here somewhere about it, but from memory the workaround is to create a file called /etc/modprobe.d/mod_dvb.conf containing the following line:
options dvb-core dvb_powerdown_on_sleep=0
Then shutdown/power off your box and restart.
Note: the power off is required to ensure that the tuner card is completely reset
Also, the location of the modprobe file might be distro-specific
